Sauce N Summer Hockey

Our Mission

We thrive on being the most professional and exciting summer development program available for each of our athletes across all of our divisions. Our mission is to provide the best and most detailed-oriented experience for our players to get them to the next level in their respective hockey journeys.

Divisions

The College Female Division continues to lead the way as the island’s first and only development program where female players can compete at a high level against one another. The division now features a dynamic mix of talent, including players from U Sports, ACAC, NCAA, and the Vancouver Island Seals, building on a strong foundation of growth and competition.

The Junior group is our main developmental group consisting of Midget AAA, Academy and Junior B players, many of which are either drafted or have been signed to WHL and Junior A teams.

The pro division is the original group for Sauce N Summer hockey, showcasing the best talent on Vancouver Island with many leagues represented such as AHL,  ECHL, SHL, WHL BCHL and the NCAA.

Our development model has always been to provide an environment that allows players to continue to play a high paced game against players their own age so this group is the perfect fit. We recruit primarily from Prep school organizations and U15-U17 programs across the province such as JPHL, PCHA, OHA and many more!

The U18 Female Division was a bright spot of the 2025 campaign as it saw exponential growth during the summer season from start to finish. This group is fun, hardworking and competitive hockey for friends and teammates to compete with and against one another and serves as a feeder system to our college group.

This division will offer the same high-quality experience as the older groups, giving players an early intro to a fun, free-flowing, and unstructured style of hockey that supports skill development and love for the game. Many players will experience a pro-style locker room and bench set up for the first time. The league emphasizes a fun, collaborative environment across all divisions and we are excited to extend these benefits to this new age group.

Registration

Players (or parents/guardians) must register in the division that best matches the player’s skill level, based primarily on where they competed during the previous season. This helps ensure fair competition and player safety. League staff reserve the right to make placement exceptions when necessary following their own evaluation process.

“Sauce N Summer is a fun and competitive environment where you can play with and against your best buds. Playing in the junior division last year helped me hone my skills for the season, and I’m excited to play in the pro division this summer, playing against and with guys I played all year long.”

Our Team

Co Founder/Head of Business Operations

Zack, a Langford/Colwood native, honed his skills in local minor hockey before playing junior for the Westshore Wolves (VIJHL), Humboldt Broncos, and stops in the AJHL. He began his collegiate career in Vermont, earning NCAA D3 NEHC All-Rookie honors in 2023 and captaining his team as a sophomore. Now, he plays for Trinity Western University in U SPORTS’ CanWest division.

Passionate about giving back, Zack co-founded Sauce N Summer to help young players develop their skills in a fun, competitive environment, inspiring the next generation in the community that shaped him.

Co Founder/ Director of Hockey Ops

Kenny’s hockey journey has been defined by dedication, leadership, and a passion for mentorship. After developing in Brantford’s minor system, he played prep hockey in New England before joining the Victoria Cougars (VIJHL). He then spent five years at the University of Victoria, captaining for three seasons, before turning pro with the SPHL’s Evansville Thunderbolts.

Now based in Victoria, Kenny remains deeply involved in the hockey community, mentoring young players and leading training sessions. In 2022, he co-founded Sauce N Summer to connect high-caliber players and foster development in a competitive, supportive environment.

General Manager- Female Divisions

Megan has been involved with the female division(s) of Sauce N’ Summer since the first year of the league! She grew up playing hockey for the JDF Grizzlies, South Island Royals (now known as the Reign), Vancouver Island Seals, and eventually was led to Shawnigan Lake School in the CSSHL where she played two seasons. Megan finished her playing career in New York playing D1 hockey for Long Island University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science.

Megan stays involved with hockey through coaching power skating with PowerWest Athletics and she has previously been involved with Hockey4Youth (associated with the Canucks Autism Network) to help give underprivileged youth the opportunity to try hockey. Megan’s love for sports and physical activity led her to the Physiotherapy program at UBC where she is currently pursuing her Master’s degree.

League Photographer

Dylan was an original Sauce N’ Summer athlete and has been apart of the Sauce N’ Summer Team as a photographer & content creator since 2023! He grew up playing minor hockey in Victoria, BC, until he eventually joined the CSSHL where he played for the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy & Yale Hockey Academy. After, Dylan went on to play four years of junior in the VIJHL, OJHL, and NOJHL. During his career he was selected by the P.A.L. Junior Islanders in the NCDC entry draft & won the Canadian National Junior A Championships in 2018 with the Chilliwack Chiefs. Currently, Dylan is in his third year of the Kinesiology program at Camosun College and will be starting his Doctorate of Chiropractic next fall.

Even though Dylan’s playing days are behind him, he stays connected to the game through several avenues. He is the Team Lead for skating lessons at JDF, where he enjoys teaching the next generation how to use their edges. He also serves as the Program Director for the Victoria Sledge Hockey Program, focusing on making the sport accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

The creation of the Dayton Clarke Memorial Championship came from a brainstorm between us and the Clarke family. From growing up playing together in minor hockey to becoming close friends over the early hockey years, we had a special relationship with Dayton. When we found out about his passing in May of 2023, we were heartbroken. But instead of sitting by idly, we came together and bonded over the idea of celebrating one of our friends. Not only did Dayton have dozens of friends participating in the Sauce N Summer league, but he too was scheduled to suit up in the 2023 summer season. With the help of Wayne and Sylvia Clarke, we created custom jerseys that had Daytons Junior hockey teams and current Oregon Ducks logos displayed in the classic “Oregon Green” that our pro division finalists wear in the championship game. This final match has proven to be a touching and fulfilling event that connects our tight-knit hockey community and concludes another successful Sauce N Summer season.

What do I get?

We provide every player with a jersey to use for the duration of the season and locker rooms are set up with nameplates, tape, protein, snacks and water bottles. We also have player of the week awards and giveaways throughout the summer as well.

How many games do I play?

1 game/week for the 7 week season + playoffs on the weekend of the Dayton Clarke Memorial Tournament.

How are games done?

3 to 5 minute warm-up followed by two 25 minute, run-time periods depending on ice availability. These games are conducted by BC-certified referees with penalties, whistles and in-game music.

How are teams made?

Our team at Sauce N Summer spends several weeks making well-rounded rosters. There is a 2-week probation period where we will make trades amongst teams to balance them out as evenly as possible.

What division do I play in?

Players are assigned to their division based on the level at which they completed their MOST RECENT hockey season.

Will I get to move up and play with better players?

We use each of our divisions as a development opportunity for the next. When teams are short players, we will contact those at the lower level to serve as call-ups for those missing spots at no extra charge. This is a careful and selective process made by our staff.
